Powertrain Casting Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Engineer. This team leads the production preparation for all cylinder blocks and transmission cases and housings sourced in the United States for volume increases of existing products, and the launch of future powertrain models. This team is separated into two types; 1. Die & Quality, and 2. Equipment/Installation.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Support Casting Engineering department's objective to provide the manufacturing site with the best equipment, tooling and process at the lowest cost to meet their production objectives. 
• Responsible for setting up equipment & die specifications, follow ordered items through delivery, set process parameters, lead adjustment & quality confirmation trials, lead defect countermeasure activities. 
• Reporting to the Engineering Manager at the Jackson TN plant.

Execute Die & Quality Engineering Specialty:
• Lead and manage the procurement of high pressure casting dies and quality confirmation equipment including: CMM fixtures and programming, Manual leak test fixtures, and gauges required to confirm product
quality. Goal is to achieve on-time delivery to achieve trial schedules
• Study and gain expertise in understanding the casting condition settings for specific product models; adjust machine settings and seek engineering controls for inputs to match a desired output condition for exact
casting parameter.  Standardize condition settings and control methods through Operation Drawings.
• Lead root cause & countermeasure activity for NA-unique defects.  Communicate frequently with the client for information share. Visit Mfg plants (Kentucky, West Virginia, & Alabama) for Genchi Genbutsu
during major trial activity and countermeasure fix effectiveness confirmation
• Output of this specialty is to achieve quality KPI; and prove-out through production preparation trials to SOP timing

Execute Equipment & Installation Specialty:
• Lead and manage the procurement of process equipment (New production lines or modified lines) from JPN and local US sources; needed to process casting parts on a production line; Casting Auxiliary equipment,
Finishing, Heat Treat, and Palletizer Equipment.  Goal is to achieve on-time delivery for installation timing to achieve trial schedules.
• Identify local contractors (Primary and subs) to modify equipment or build new process equipment lines.  Manage installation with daily safety meetings, setting work targets for each day with the general contractor,
managing progress each day to towards major milestones; ex:  Power-On, Machine motion checks,etc.
• Schedule vendor-provided specialists to confirm equipment on-site (ex; Robot Teaching, Machine programming checks and running in manual and continuous)
• Manage equipment trials; develop punchlists to countermeasure safety issues, and continuous and manual running conditions
• Output of this specialty is to achieve productivity KPI; and prove-out through production preparation trials to SOP timing

Upward Potential to Manage Projects
• Projects include pre-production preparation of casting products such as aluminum cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and transmission cases.\
• Project scope can span 12-24 mo and includes planning / budget development, equipment / die procurement, equipment installation, and casting trials leading to SOP.
• Project budgets typically range from $5M-$45M

Lead / Manage Team Members
• Lead a project group during the pre-production phase of a project.  This includes scheduling meetings, reviewing materials and gaining consensus.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
• Education: BS Degree(or above) in Engineering or 4+ years equivalent professional experience in Automotive/Manufacturing
• 1+ years of Production Preparation and/or Manufacturing in Casting for Powertrain.
• 1+ years of major model change experience in Casting process (equipment, fixtures, tooling, transfers) & impact to part quality / manufacturability
• 1+ years of experience as Casting project leader with resp. for a working group including job responsibility coordination and overall project milestone management

Nice To Have's (not required):
• 3+ years of Casting or Metals related manufacturing engineering experience
• 1+ years High Pressure Die Casting Experience
• 1+ years direct working experience with NC machining
• 1+ year working knowledge with Fanuc Robot including system integration and troubleshooting
• 1+ year working knowledge with PLC including system integration and troubleshooting
• 1+ years working knowledge with 2D / 3D CAD systems for equip layout and part/die modeling applications
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Creo or other 2D/3D programs
• Proficient with programming / troubleshooting industrial PLC platforms
• Experienced with preparing documentation, presenting / gaining approval for capital projects and cost justification proposals.
• Successful completion of JKK and TBP
